PRESS RELEASE

The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston ELOUNDOU ESSOMBA, hereby informs the general public that temporary disruptions in the electricity supply may be experienced in certain localities across the country following the temporary shutdown of the Kribi gas-fired thermal power plant.

This situation results from maintenance works being carried out by the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH) on the facilities of the gas pipeline terminal station that supplies natural gas to the power plant.

In accordance with the technical requirements and safety imperatives associated with this operation, the power plant will be exceptionally shut down for the entire duration of the maintenance works, scheduled from 05 to 07 August 2026. Consequently, this intervention will lead to a temporary reduction in the generation capacity of the Southern Interconnected Grid, which may cause disruptions to the electricity supply in certain localities.

The Minister of Water and Energy nevertheless wishes to reassure the public that, immediately upon notification of these maintenance works by SNH, the necessary technical and operational measures were put in place, in close coordination with the various stakeholders in the electricity sector, to minimise the impact on consumers.

For this purpose, all other available generation resources have been mobilised, and the electricity network will be operated optimally to ensure the greatest possible service continuity throughout this period.

The Minister of Water and Energy reiterates that these disruptions are strictly exceptional and temporary. Every effort is being made to ensure a gradual return to normal electricity supply as soon as the maintenance works are completed.

While expressing his sincere regrets to consumers for the inconvenience caused, the Minister thanks them for their understanding, patience, and civic-mindedness.
